Default Transfer Case Issues

I tried to search for some answers but no go.
So my Jeep never had any issues going from 2WD to 4WD and was super cool, then my dad had me move his boat cause the backyard it was in was too muddy for his expidition, I put it 4 fulltime and pulled it out with no issues, but then it was really tough to put back into 2WD and now it makes a clanking/tumbling noise. Any ideas guys? Everything looks connected as should on the outside.

maybe the linkage is hung-up. try going in reverse then while doing that put the 4wd slector in "N". put the tranny selector in N while your doing this. i know its on the fly but try it. good luck.
