you need a converter box like the uhaul one. you cant just splice in a 4 flat harness. The XJ does not use the brake light as a blinker since it has a seperate signal bulb.
The converter will solve this problem. I got mine from NAPA for about 20 bucks and spliced it in behind the spare tire.

i already have the 5 wire to 4 wire converter from u haul. its the one in the picture i just dont know what wires i have to splice into
