Hey All,

I'm in the market for a new set of shoes for my XJ. I was pretty set on going with the old faithful BFG AT's, but I was at Tire Barn and the guy was trying to sell me on the Toyo Open Country AT. BFG's were gonna run me $820 and the Toyo's were only gonnna be $550. Big price difference, I've ran the BFG's in the past and LOVED them. They are one of the best all around tires every made.

I want to know if anybody out here is running the Toyo Open Country AT's.

How do they wear?

How do they Handle in rain?

Also, sand, snow, mud, and trails?

Road noise? (I'm currently running Goodyear MTR's so anything is an improvement)

My grandfather has a set on his dodge 1500, so far hes put about 3000 miles on them, and they still look new and they handle rain snow and slush great, Im not sure how they do in mud and on trails but they have a pretty decent tread pattern that seems like they'd grab pretty good. And on the highway there pretty quite, they sound like street tires. Hope this helps you out.

I was wondering about these tires also. I need a new set for my wj and have been looking for input. Keep it coming.

I had them on my xj. They do great in rain, and on the street. They are mediocre in the rocks. They suck in mud and slush. I swapped to bfg ats and it was a night an day difference. Bfg ftw. The toyos are designed for the street more than anything. Mine were SILENT. There a good choice for a DD with mild off roading. They wear really good. Probably a 10 out of 10.

What size are you getting?

ive got 235/75 on mine ive put them through the mud and snow havent had any issues with those..they handle pretty good on the road..if you can dish out the money for the bfg by all means get them they're amazing im getting them when i get my lift installed..but the toyo are great for the price..

What size are the toyos for 550? And I am assuming that's 4 of them....lol

Great tire. My dad and I both run them on our XJ's. Great on the road in rain/snow and as already said, good on rocks and sand, offroad. My dad got 50,000 miles out of his last set. Ive had mine since July and they still look new.

I was going with the 245/75/16's for $550

My wife and I are tring to cut costs where ever we can which is why I'm shying away from the $820 BFGs even though I know they are amazing. I might give the Toyos a shot.

Pics of your rigs with the tires would be cool too. I wouldn't mind seeing them on an XJ. Thanks guys!

I've been running Toyo's on my vehicles for years, good quality tires.
I have thier Open Country A/T's 225/15/15's on my XJ right now, and they do good in snow and have great wet pavement traction. I don't really go mudding in my Jeep, so I can't comment.

I used them on a stck xj... Great tire. Great in snow for the first few years and now that they are coming to a slow end they obviously have given up most of their performance. Drove cross country in them twice... I think we must have put over 40k on them. I would buy again if I ever needed an AT tire.
