This is my second post and was wondering if anyone tows with their Cherokee? Mine is a '94 with the 4.0, 2WD, and AX-15 tranny. Would I have any problems towing a small '18 foot camper that weighs 3500lbs.?
The Cherokee feels like it pulls pretty strong and I would like to get rid of my F-150 or Astro if the Cherokee is up to the task...it's pretty flat where I live.....

i don't think you can hurt it with 3500 lbs.
but, if you're gonna sell your towing rig and regularly tow with the XJ, I'd re-gear it to make it easier on the mpg and the tranny.

Yeah they are rated for like 5000lbs and in more forgiving terrain i'd feel comfortable towing that. I pulled a 4500lb Boat for like a few miles, flat towed an FSJ and a YJ and pulled a couple smaller things. I even pulled the boat just fine with stock gears and 33's, didn't hit any big hills though lol.
None of them were an issue except the flat tows, but that's just because flat towing is not ideal on anything with a shorter wheelbase and lighter weight than like a 3/4 ton truck.

I pulled a large uhaul trailer 500 miles through the mountains and she did ok... Your transmission lines are gonna spew a little and spray your exhaust creating a lot of smoke. I recommend getting rid of the quick disconnects and replace with hose clamps - also I would suggest a tranny cooler to keep it cool during the long hauls. That will eliminate alot of pressure from heat.
Thanks
