What is the tow rating for your Jeep? I have seen a WJ pulling a race trailer with a Porsche 911 on it, didn't seem to have any issues.

Check to the owners manual to see it's tow rating exactly as it's equipped. I think a properly equipped GC is good up to 5000 lbs. You would probably want to add/upgrade the trans cooler and put in a proportional brake controller.

The WK2 Grand Cherokee is rated to tow 7,400 lbs. (with towing package) so you shouldn't have any problem towing it. Of course when towing a trailer that is nearly as heavy as your vehicle (I believe a WK2 weighs around 4,600 lbs.) you definitely need to be careful since the trailer definitely can push you around if you let your guard down (this will be true of most vehicles with a trailer that heavy/long).

I would think that another trans cooler would be the best thing to do when pulling a trailer. Heat is the enemy of automatic transmissions.....

Sorry to be OT, but when you guys talk about 4000lb trailers - are they braked?
I ask because an XJ is plated for 3250kg in the UK which is 7150lbs, but all trailers over 750kg (1650lbs) have to have brakes.

my trailer has electric brakes

thinking bout getting a V6 now..save 40/month on gas vs a V8 @ 2.60 gal

it can tow 5000 pounds...most my trailer can go is 4400 fully loaded...propane/water/gear

That's called double dipping....they pay the oilfield boys the big bucks then charge a higher price for gas to get some back. Around Dallas it's around $1.87 too.
