Ok guys&gals!!! Let's try and keep this list going as long as our XJ's break on the TRAIL!!!! Let's describe the WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, and HOW our XJ's have BROKE!!!!!!
Example: last year going over the gate keeper at walker valley I slipped off a rock and landed on my tie-rod. I jumped out the xj to take a little peek at my mere less than metal coat hanger strength STOCK tie-rod and sure enough it was bent just enough to notice it..... So what did I do next?...well I kicked the tire jumped back in and headed towards upper-mainline like any brave jeep'er would do, and only about 30min into it I suddenly noticed 0% steering radius. The tie-rod had gotten finished off on a large rock those 33" BFG's tried to push out the way. So how I fixed the problem was by pulling off the bent tie-rod and bending it back as much straight as possible and welding my high-lift handle side by side to it so that the tie-rod would not bend right back on the first turn due to the weakening of it's structural integrity. So there ya have it!!!! WHAT broke, WHERE it broke, WHEN it broke, and HOW did you fix it? And by this compiled info we should be able to come up with an amazing TOP 100 list of broken parts on the trail and how to fix those broken parts on the trail!!! This info should serve great for all XJ's owners from the rookie's to the pro's!!!!! So with that said....."Let's get ready to list"
1.
PROBLEM: bent tie-rod
SOLUTION: bend tie-rod straight as possible then weld jack handle side by side to it so the tie-rod does not bend back. Or if possible slip the jack handle over the tie-rod if no welder is available.

U-joints always break, broke a joint, passenger side axle, on Cliffhanger in Moab last year, but we made it out ok haha. My buddy bent his tie rod also, in little moab a while ago, bent it back with my wifes comanche by stickin it between a couple rocks and drivin over it, and it worked!! He's still drivin it around like that now...dang now that i think about it, i could go on forever...twisted my drive shaft in half once, just on the street
ignition switch busted on the trail...lotsa stuff.

What: Transmission
Where: North Spit, North Bend, OR
When:10pm sometime in july 09
How: We were playing in the sand and at some point in the ride a trans line was snagged and ripped off, soo my fluid was pumped out and didn't know till it was too late and I was all the way to the jetty and the heat melted the crank sensor and killed it. Could see a nice transmission fluid trail most the way back. Bad night...but at least it died on high ground and not by water where the tide was coming in.

let's see... lots of pin stripping.
I got caught up on a barbed wire fence out wheeling in the desert. lol.
Umm, broken threads on those STUPID old pressurized radiator reservoirs, over heated, leaked fluids out everywhere!! desert again. but i've recently upgraded the cooling system.
So far the best one, I was romping over a rhythm section (not for solid axles). and I hit a real big one and I caught air, and when I landed, I landed so hard it broke the shock mounts clean off the rear axle. long bouncy ride home. desert again. I'm converting to rock crawling. lol. MOAB here I come!!

Rear o2 sensor got tangled in my driveshaft while flexing on Slaughterhouse. Frayed up the wires pretty good and blew the fuse up front.
