Hey all,
I ran into another question as I build up my XJ.
My XJ sees a lot of highway miles, so good gas mileage is a must.
She sees a lot of miles on gnarly gravel roads ranging from good, fine gravel up to fist sized rock-ballast type roads. I need the tires to hold up to this type of terrain.
She also gets driven in snow (on both pavement and gravel) and on true dirt (not gravel) roads, but I do not do any hardcore crawling or mudding.
So, the question: what type and style of tire would you recommend for my application?
Another quick question...I have a set of spare wheels that are black with a Jeep logo. They measure ~16" in diameter, have a 5.5" backspacing, and are ~ 8-9" wide. Is there any reason I couldn't toss a set of 31x10.5 R15's on there? I have a stock lift.
Thanks all.

At stock the biggest id go is 30's, people have gotten away with 31's but then your flex is severly limited. A good A/T tire sounds what you need, Goodwrench is what a lot of people use. you can get 2 in coil spaces and 2 in shackes for very cheap and with 30's you have good flex and good enough clearance at a low cost.

Thanks, man. So I'm probably looking at an All Terrain tire, then.
Do you know about the wheels? What are they useful for?
What would coil spaces and shackles do for me?
Thanks again!

If you have a stock suspension you will have to lift or trim to fit 31x10.5 tires.
