I agree with this. I lied to myself last time I got tires, also just love the looks of MT's, but I think I'm going AT's next.

Rocky Mountains are ~$140, BFG ATs are $180.

I literally will not be wheeling AT ALL. It's a 2wd jeep. I'm too young to have money to keep fixing parts I will break while wheeling, so I will stick to dirtbikes and ATVs for now. I just think stock XJs look silly. I'd love to have it beefed up some.

So the only time this XJ will be off cement will be on a flat grassy field haha.

College kid here as well No issues with em though? The only tires i've ever driven on my Jeep before are the $69 Discount Tire cheapo tires, so i'm sure anything is an upgrade. I just don't want loud tires on the highway or any road.

Pro Comp Mud Terrains should be a good tire in the 31x10.50x15 size. I had a set of 32s on my Jeep for the first 4 years after I lifted and started wheeling it....and I did a lot of highway driving or I believe they would have lasted even longer (couple of trips from washington to California and Nevada). They have a farely aggressive look, they work great in snow, sand, rocks, mud, logs, slick rock and clay....and YES I had them in all of that. Deep snow running in Evans Creek, Wa. to slick rock in Shaver lake, Ca. to the Pismo Dunes in Ca. to the rocky/sandy trails in Nevada to the boulder, log, rock and slick comb you get at Walker Valley, Wa. Plus, they are very quiet when compared to other mud tread tires I've run. The kicker is that 4wheel Parts sells these tires and they are always having some kind of a special on them....so many % off, buy 3 get 1 free, free shipping, stuff like that.

You really won't have tires that are obnoxiously loud until you run a 33" or bigger tire with a farely aggressive mud terrain tread.

Of course you can have a 30x9.50 Swamper and it will be loud. I figure you know that but, I figured somebody would pipe up and say that.

I just want something that looks beefy and aggressive but only needs to perform on the road. And with the Discount Tire warranty, does anyone know the difference between the $21.50 insurance vs the Extended $86 insurance? It doesn't say...

Give your local Discount Tire a call and ask. they have no reason to lie to you. They are making money on whichever warranty you choose. I don't know or I would just tell you. Figured that was the best advice I had to give.

Nevermind, I see it now. They have it listed strangely, but you have to purchase the warranty for all 4 tires, which is what the $86 is.

Looks like i'll be getting Rocky Mountains and at least have the peace of mind knowing they're under warranty.

A warranty is always a good thing to have. Just remember if you ever take one of the tires in for service and they ask, "It was never taken off road". That usually voids most tire warrantys I've seen.
