need a new rear bumper, and i'm wanting to get one with a swing away tire carrier. so far the one I like is from Hanson. but I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. I also like the tube bumper look so if anyone knows of a tube bumper with a tire carrier let me know.

Well I'm going to be cleaning this bumper off, and then buying this from Detours http://www.detoursusa.com/knucklebone.php. But detours has some other nice stuff on their website. I can't speak for how strong it is yet but.

Knucklebone by Detours is cool. I also like the look of their Tailbone.

I dont' know about tube bumpers, I'm running Tomken Machine Bumper/Swingout tire carrier.. It's stout & works great. If I had to do over, I'd have gone with the Backbone from Detours. I stumbled upon this site after I started my build.... ..





It came with everything, Plate (tag) relocater, and all hardware. I always change over to Grade 8 Bolts (not sure why bumper companies don't supply Grade 8 bolts). I'm happy with it, I just have to finish off the wraparouds after I do a cut & fold.

I think a lot of it depends on how you are going to use/wheel your Jeep. Mine is being built as a DD/mild wheeler so I opted for the Detours Tailbone to keep the stock look. (Still in the box though, haven't had the time to install it yet).

I'm saving up for a Detours slimline bumper, hopefully will get one next year. The dirtbound was was my next choice.

I have had the Detours offroad slimline since 2007. It is a very well made bumper, IMO. The things that sold me on it was the sides go along the side of the quarter all the way to the fender (He'll cut it for bushwackers if you ask) and I saw almost nothing else that offered that. I liked that the hinge was down on the bumper instead of blocking the reverse light on one side. The way it follows the jeep body is outstanding. After 6 years, I have had two issues come up. One - last year, the pin that the hinge goes on broke off. This had cracked over time from the 35" tire on it and fairly frequent abuse. I do not fault the bumper at all for that, although Detours sent me parts to fix it at no charge. The other issue I have is that the handle that locks the carrier into place hits on stuff when you come off huge ledges. They take an impressive amount of abuse, but it will take it out eventually .
Still a great bumper. I have hit it really hard a lot of times.

I contacted my sales rep for Smittybilt earlier today and asked about their long-awaited rear bumper/tire carrier. He told me that they are due in at the end of July.

i did nates and a custom hitch carrier bought on here for a grand total of 380... in my budget looks good and cool cuz i can take it off whenever

I heard they were due in July, last June.
