Hey I am going to be doing some welding in the future and was wondering which of these one would get and if they would be good for most things or no? Mainly welding on some new rocker panels and maybe floor reinforcement?

Both are used and both are 100 or less, Any thoughts?

 

Ive never heard of these 2. I'm not a welder expert but I would go with a better known brand. Replacement parts and long term quality are a lot better. We have a Lincoln 110 and have had it for 10+ years and no problems. Built a few trailers, many exhausts, floor pans, body panels, and anything else you would like. I personally wouldn't build a bumper with it but you can though just make sure your welds are good.

 

Blue Point is a Snap On brand welder and I've never heard of an Astro so I googled it. Both welders seem to be somewhat difficult to find parts for, but for only a $100, if they work, either one will do.

Pick the one that looks the newest and see if you can "test drive" em' before you would buy. Either one would make a good starter welder for the price.

 

Go for a brand name lincoln miller hobart are all good

 

Yep you'll be better off even if you have to pay more.

 

ok I also found this one on CL Lincoln Electric Rod Welder that includes a helmet and rods for 150 near by. Would this be a better bet since I would also be getting some other needed items and its a lincoln which seems to be a good company?

 

I'd personally stray away from stick welding. My dad welds and I remember him saying something about stick welds bend or flex more than a migs weld. Also if your planning on anything with body panels I Would hate using a stick welder for anything. I would find your self a flux core mig. It's easy and a helmet from harbor freight is cheap and you can get an auto adjust. You'll be grateful to have the mig I know when I first did the stick welding I had troubles. I then got certified in stick then hadnt done it for less than a year and I had troubles. I go to mig every time a can make a good weld.

Check the power requirements and where you are going to plug it in. I got only 100 amp in the house, so I'm limited. On the farm we can run the 40 year old 220 Lincoln 220 stick no problem.

 

Yeah i have no idea what my amp limit is and how to increase it either cause I'm sure it's not to high.
