It still says salvage on it. You'll never really know for a fact if it was "totaled" or not. That being said, I wouldn't even risk it.

Hes worried about the salvage title.

Man, so hard. I mean if it didn't have the salvaged title, it would be exactly what I want, condition, mileage, and I'm sure I can get the price down.

Ok this right here is somthing i have delt with before.

So look up what the value is on kbb.com once you find out what it blue books for then you can start to talk her down.

The simple fact is that if she has owned it since 75k now it has 150k i am pretty sure its gona be fine for another 200k. not to mention if you do what your suppose to with a vehicle you just buy then you will be fine. Maintence!

as far as it being totaled just means the damage was more than the vehicle was worth, but since it got rebuilt meant some one bought it back and fixed it. The person who totaled it probably used his insurance money to buy it back. Here is an example: totaled a 1985 t top camaro. problem hood, fender, bumper, radiator, fan.....Insureance gave me like $2200 i bought it back for like $800 and used about $400 to fix/ paint it back to the way it was......I mean u cant even find a motor with 450 hp for $800 let alone a camaro.....

So look it over really good And if you find somthing wrong with it later down the road you can always hit up the junk yard, cherokee forum or craiglist and i am pretty sure you can get it fixed cheap.

So just blue book it, then go back to her and tell her your not going to pay that price but you got X amount in cash and u will drive it away today.

I would scoop this jeep up quick but not for $4500 the most i think i could pay would be about $3500 or $3000. my 1997 xj is worth 2700 and i got 150k on it.

Dude, I know I responded already, and you have know real reason to listen to me but:
1: Can you guys even agree on a price? And use NADA, not KBB. It's what insurance companies, lenders, dealers use.
2: What do you want to do with it? A trail toy that you're going to hammer on anyway or a DD to get groceries and haul your kids around? Any totaled unibody vehicle (regardless of how the insurance company came to the decision to total it) is NOT hauling my baby girl down the highway!
3: What is your experience level with jeeps? Would you know if something is wrong upon brief inspection? If not, have it checked out. To me, the front view of this jeep looks crooked. Like it wasn't put back together quite right. And it may just be the ground it sits on, but it looks to sit wonky too.

It seems that if it's this difficult a decision for you, this is not the one. You will find the right jeep, man. Just hang in there.

Thanks this helps a ton! Personal experience is always the best advice! Much appreciated. My dad said to offer $3500, but I told him that might even be too much. I KBBd it.. It was like $2700 with the salvaged title, and CarFax says take another $850 off that retail price. That's what I'm thinking though. She's owned it for a long time and seemed real honest when she didn't know it had a salvaged title... I feel like the insurance company would of told her, but then again her dad bought it for her so who knows.

The only problem is that it needs to be reliable for a daily driver, and I want to do a 4.5 inch lift myself and put some 32s on there. I just don't want there to be weak spots like someone said. But other than the little cosmetic things like a rip on a side of a seat, cracked windshield, there's practically no rust. I just gotta double check with the insurance company that they'll cover the car with that title, but it does have a rebuilt title... Doesn't that mean it passed inspections - which means someone had to fix it up, which is good.

In my area it's hard to find really good condition 98-01s for much less than $4000, and a lot go for a lot more, especially on AutoTrader.

A gunmetal metallic blue just sold locally with 150k miles for $1500, in great condition, needing a drag link (wobble at 55), with a clean title.

No way on earth I'd pay that for that. Serious.

I got my 95 with 180k, couple oil leaks, stock height, BRAND NEW Hancook street tires(took those off on day two), clean title, clean body for the year, and runs/rides beautifully for $1150. And that was on Halloween, so just before winter when prices hit the roof for XJ''s. I'd look for one a little nicer for that kind of $$

Oops I think it's gunmetal blue or gunmetal pearl. A quick online check lists it as PQ7... I have too many cars that need bodywork so I mix my colors up.
