Found this story on another forum that I frequent and thought it would be enjoyed (by some) here.

I disagree with his final conclusion but an interesting read none the less.

Old news. The only way a kl beats a cherokee offroad is if it's stock. Simple lift, tires, and some lockers and the kl can't touch it.
I don't get why people keep writing articles about kl vs xj all they share is a name.
All I can say is that I think the new cherokee is ugly and you won't see me in one.

I'll stand firm that a KL can't outperform a Cherokee, both in stock condition, in off road capability.
We haven't seen a head to head but 100's of individual UTube viewings are available.
Fiat bought the rights to the name and may apply it as they wish. Where will todays product offering be in 25 years?
I know what I drive and it's capabilities exceed my abilities.

It's still fugly. Maybe I'm just getting old. Maybe if they'd make it more retro like a mini Wagoneer. That might look nice and it'd be different looking from all the other cookie cutter SUV's out there.

It'll never happen with the CAFE standards in place. They need to design for the aerodynamics to squeeze every bit of MPG they can to stay in compliance, along with lots of other factors. Even if they tried it, you know the crowd of pessimists here and everywhere else would still cry foul. LOL
