Default Test Drove the 2014 Cherokee Today-Pics

So I stopped by the local Jeep dealer and chatted up my old friend there who is now the GSM. A KL just rolled off the truck last night and had not been picked up yet by his customer, so we took it out for a ride. Its a nice snappy car. All the high tech bells and whistles you would find in a BMW, Volvo, or Audi. Steers very precise. Comfortable. Quiet. A bit under powered with the 4 cyl. But very well featured. Styling is love it or hate it. Personally, I kind of like it. And I am sure it will be a great seller.

But at $36,000 do you really want to get it in the rocks, and streams, and mud? Really?

(And I asked him how well the $52,000 Grand Cherokees are selling. He said they outsell the dumbed down Grand Cherokees. Featured out they out do the BMW X5, and Mercedes SUV's.)

Here are some KL pics. . . You make the call:

I wouldn't do any hardcore off roading in a $36,000 rig.

XJ vs. KL is like the original Terminator movie vs. T2, the XJ being the original Terminator, and KL being T2.

The original Terminator was low budget, gritty, with a rough edge to it, a dark flick with a cult following.

T2 was slick, refined, high budget with that gritty, raw edge removed and replaced by a kindler, gentler Terminator.

I always liked the original Terminator better.

Very much how I felt about it. Steered like a real snappy euro sport sedan. Glided around without much road feel. Very quiet. Refined, not visceral. And Maybe some hood louvers would help the looks.

Yea, I asked my friend the GSM at the dealer about that. I have seen JK's stickered out over $50,000. He told me about a long standing customer who bought one for well over that and then took it to the local off road shop and spent another $25,000. And he keeps it at his desert home and uses it like a jeep out there. Don't we all wish we had that kind of scratch. And I don't mean on the paint job.

That's because they have electric assisted steering.

Smile KL

The KL has an emergency 911 call button that connects directly to a 911 operator, another button gives immediate access to roadside assistance or customer service.

Operator: 9-1-1 operator, what is your emergency?

Soccer Mom: Um yes, I'm at the Palmdale shopping mall and I've high centered on a curb in front of the Macy's, can you send assistance?

This is not the first time I read people saying that it feels like a fancy BMW. This car does not feel like a Jeep for sure, it feels like a little luxury suv. But after you have finished your "Jeep" test drive go test drive a new x3 or audi Q5 and tell me if the KL is even on the same planet. Silly.
