Just have a cheap hand held I bought at a yard sale for 5 bucks. I only use it when wheeling with others, so range is not an issue.

Have a Cobra 29LTD with a 4ft fire stick mounted on my roof rack so its 11.6 ft in the air. Kept up with a lot of my buddies until they switched to HAM. Still cut it on when i drive from Boone NC to Greensboro NC once or twice a month and keep it on when i drive in Greensboro.

I've got a cheap Uniden PRO505XL that I bought off Amazon, coupled with a 4' Wilson flexible fiberglass dealie with the tunable tip, mounted to the rear passenger-side quarterpanel, a-like so:

I use it relatively often... I have a three-hour, 200-mile drive twice a week, so I'll turn it on and throw the squelch way up when I hit the highways so I can only hear people that are nearby. On good days, I've managed up to a ten mile range (when the other person was on a bridge)... usually, though, between four and six.

I have an old Radio Shack single side band CB. Been using it a lot lately. Propagation has been real good! From San Diego I've been able to talk to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the South Pacific, and all points in between. This using a 4 foot firestick. I need to put on my 102" whip! Oh, regular CB works okay, too.
