I use either Fram synthetic or Mopar brand oil filters and I like either Castrol or Mobil 1 5W 30, but if I use the Mopar filter (in summer) I don't use synthetic. I only use 5W 30 because I live in a climate that could change from +20 to -20 Celsius overnight, and 10W is too thick for life in Canada. I've heard good things about Rotella T though, with a lucas add. What are your guys' normal oil pressures? Mine changes with different filters and oil, so I'm just wondering what is average?

They'd still recommend 10w30. Tolerances of today's engines are much tighter than they were 15-20 years ago. Newer Jeeps (from roughly 2000 to current) all call for 5w30 in the manual or on the cap. I have even seen a few with 5w20 recommended.

My 1990 runs just a little under half on the gauge when I'm driving, it drops to just over 10 at an idle. But I have 200K on the engine, and I'm thinking of rebuilding and stroking it out...

I always ran 10w-30 and never had an issue when I was living up there (24 years). My dad's one of the only guys I trust with vehicles and he's run 10w-30 in every car he's had. He's lived in MI his whole life and does everything to his vehicles himself. I think the lowest mileage vehicle he's had before selling it was the Chevy Astro with 220k on it. Still ran like a champ and didn't leak a drop.

Valvoline 10W-30 Full Synthetic with FRAM Extended Guard. Works great but best oil ive used was probably Castrol Edge. Want to try royal purple badly though....

Really? I have a 99 and my book says 5w 30 is good for any weather, and to only use 10w 30 above -5 C. I use it during summer too, never had any leaks or problems, it can get up around 35 to 40 C here, and -30 to -40 during winter
