Subs in my '95 Cherokee
So the sound system in my Cherokee is horrible. I upgraded the HU and decided to throw 2 10's in the car that I have had in my basement from the sale of a previous vehicle. I have had these subs for about 10 yrs and every car they have been in they have had the potential to rattle it to pieces so I kept the bass down. I installed them over the weekend into the Jeep and they sound like crap. The either make little to no bass or over flex and sound like they are about to explode. I was messing with them last night, and with the system on, I removed the speaker connection from the box to make sure the subs are connected inside and when I did....BAM! The bass came to life. It was back to what it sounded like in my previous cars. I was thinking it is because the other cars they were in were 2 door hatch backs but I dont get it. They are in a sealed box, as they have always been, but when I introduce a small port to check the connections they work like they previously did. Anyone have any insite on this? I was told maybe the subs are just old and done so they struggled in a closed box........I dont know what the reasoning would be.

I put a single 10" sub in my daughter's 05 Eclipse last year. I was trying to dial it in and there was just no bass no matter what I adjusted. Then I closed the hatch and the bass came to life. I felt so stupid.
