dont be stupid. it's to make the ujoint stronger. or really, just make it impossible to have a cap go flying off and take the whole shaft with it. 95-01 d30 shafts are plenty strong enough even on 35" tires. shaving a bit off the inner ear is no big deal just dont go overboard

I'd rather just use the tack weld option and carry spares on the trail.

I will get another set and deburr the ears and grind alittle for the 760x u joints + tack washers on .
My 01 has the bigger shafts but I will do the above .

Wouldn't let you work on anything I own if your spelling and grammar reflect on your work.

Were also mostly talking about axle shafs...

same idea basically. nothing wrong with either method. trail spares should always be carried when using D30

I'll never understand the tack on washer thing. you're just making it so you can never change your ujoint unless you grind it off :dunno: the full circle clips will hold it there guaranteed and you can service it later if need be

Very true.. you'd have to hit it w/ a zippy wheel as I call 'em

I would of course recommend the 760 joints, and get yourself some quality ujoints like good ol Spicers. There's a reason most aftermarket chromo shaft assemblies come w/ 'em standard...

I've personally witnessed 2 broken shafts due to the fact they spit out a ujoint cap, so either tack welding the cap or throwing on one of those "almost alloy kits" (think I paid $30) will do the job. Think I got 'em from iron Rock. You can't beat 'em for $30... worth my time in money and they fit awesome. That's currently my spare setup should I lose a chromo...

So... Spicer joints, weld the caps and use and abuse... if that doesn't cut it, then you better step up the shafts to chromos or find a find a bigger axle...
Of course these are dedicated spares... They are for getting me home or throughout the rest of my trip(3 days sometimes)... God forbid I break a chromo at least I know I'm not throwin in junk...

The shafts were my old ones... bought the "new" Spicers online for $50 I think, and the Iron rock "almost alloy kit" was $30... so for about 75 bucks I got some shafts I know I won't have to baby home...

Anyhow, I'll swear by the setup... anything else is a waste.. or upgrade to chromos.

You couldn't have taken an English class? Or English as a second language course, sometimes those are free.
