yeah congrats on getting it back though...

Well they broke my dash ripping my head unit out, they destroyed my CB, and cup holders, they took my 10" inch sub in the homemade box I made 5 years, and they unbolted the self tapping screw I drilled into the back of my seat that held my amp firm when I was wheelin. Not to mention breaking my passenger rear window to get in and stealing my ipod and just for the kicks, breaking my sunglasses. ....awesome... but at least i got it back.

Im glad to hear you got her back again - sorry to hear about the damage, but hopefully it'll be easier and cheaper to fix that, than to start from scratch with another jeep. I know more people than ever are struggling and desperate to make money these days, but theres just no frigging excuse for stealing a working mans car.

The cars I drove in highschool were not worth being stolen (92 Geo Tracker, and my senior year a 95 rusted out Toyota truck 2wd) and I grew up in a very small town (My highschool had more people) so I really never locked my cars. I have to remember to lock it, unlike many who just do it as second nature. But now I lock as my car is valuable, has alot of my valuables in it, and is parked in a city. It probably helps I dont have an aftermarket stereo or speakers.

But I still dont lock it in my driveway.

Lockin it helps a bit.. makes it just a little harder for the casual thief. If its locked theyve got to smash a window (noisy), or try to force you locks.. which can be a bit conspicuous, depending on where your parked.. but at the end of the day your average car door lock, especially and older one from the 80's or 90's, isnt going to be that hard to defeat. I think cherokee addiction23 has the right idea with an immobilizer / killswitch.

Glad you got it back so soon and with minor damages too. Was it found via standard police procedures, a forum member's help or a vehicle recovery system?

Your story served as a wake-up call for a lot of us. Locks only keep honest people honest. If a criminal (a petty thief in this case) wants it, or what's inside, then they're going to break in even if it is unlocked - in some cases.

I'm glad it wasn't stolen by chop-shoppers. Check everything more thoroughly after bringing it home to be sure they didn't disrespect it too much more than they already did. They might've beat on it and injured/broken other things. We'd hate to have you find-out the hard way while driving to and from home or wheeling a deep-narly trail. Here's wishing you good fortune in that department...

i've found tint keeps people from seeing in or atleast deters them from trying
they can't steal what they can't see

Believe it or not that was the first thing I thought of when I got it back, Im putting tints on it.

Yes tints do help. But it defeats the purpose of tints when people can hear the sterio pounding. A hint with sterios, turn them down or off before you enter a neighborhood that you know your gonna leave your jeep outside over night.
