What have you guys done about this?
Pretty sure it mostly happens in the heat.
Not critical, but sort of annoying

-Steering wheel cover
-Replace steering wheel
-Wear gloves

 

What range of steering wheels could I use?
Main risk of buying a used one is that it's just as bad as my current wheel.

You don't wanna mess with r/r'ing the steering wheel unless you absolutely need to. You need to disconnect the airbag and clockspring to do so. I have visions of you getting knocked out by the airbag....

 

I use lysol wipes on mine every now and then to clean the ugh off of it. It seeps out of the wheel, caused by the sun cooking it.

 

I've replaced the clockspring already with a used one from Ebay.
One of the simplest repairs I've done on this car.

Unless these covers have evolved, I associate them with being terrible, poorly fitting, always hanging off, etc

 

Do you periodically clean the steering wheel? Especially after working on the Jeep?
Could be a build up of greasy gunk on it dissolving the plastic.
Every time i work on my XJ or have a shop work on it, never fails my hands get grease on them later on from the steering wheel.

If you don't like the cheap slip on covers and if your sewing skills are good, might want to try a stitch on leather cover.
My OEM leather wrapped steering wheel is getting tired, thinking about something like this.

 

I have the exact cover I posted above. Fits like a glove. Zero issues.

EDIT: Also, the only steering wheel you're gonna find will be used...putting you right in the same boat.

What size Aully Park cover did you install?
For $10, this is worth a shot.

 

In the link moparado provided, second pic down, is a sizing chart. I would get one size up from what you need and trim it down to fit, if I was going to go that route.

Try this trick out. I have heard good things about it. I have not done it myself. Lysol wipes about once a week keeps my wheel decent.
