At best you can get a decent paint job with rattle cans. For what you'll spend you could get a decent spray gun and shoot it and get a much better job. If you really want to go cheap do it with high density foam rollers.
Prep is the biggest issue and will have more effect on everything overall.

I knew the prep was the biggest issue. I guess the best time to do it will be now since it isn't registered yet. Nah, Ill go with the Spray Gun. Assuming I will need a air compressor...What kind of paint is best for using a spray gun? I only know of Spray Paint and Interior/Exterior Paint...Rustoleum? Hahahahahaha

Get an acrylic enamel so you don't have to worry about shooting clear. Acrylic enamel dries glossy and sometimes only needs wet sanded once with some fine grit sandpaper.
You can get a gallon of black Crossfire for about $100. A gallon will do your whole Jeep and you might even have some left over.

I wouldnt recommend bedlining the whole jeep either. My 2 bumpers are bedlined and they're always dirty, that stuff attracts dirtyness and its not easy to clean because of the texture. Black rattle can is almost the same id go with an olive or tan if i was gonna rattle can my jeep.
