No pics but...
Roof= hcog
Back= better cog, less visibility, in the way unless on swing out.
Inside= hell even the donut takes up considerable space, but a false floor can help with this...

Idk man. It's preference... And budget... If you want it mounted on the back, an expensive bumper/tire carrier is in order. But in the trunk is far less functional. Not to mention cooler lookin..

Friend of mine mounted his on the roof. He said it felt noticably more top heavy while driving/wheeling. I may have to try it myself though and see how it is

My 31 is kinda tight in the stock location & I don't feel like taking a hammer to it to make my 33 fit.I have a stock TJ carrier & I am gonna mount it to my luggage rack rails.I will also make some sort of wind screen for it.Kinda like the X-terra has but bigger, more like what the big rigs have just obviously NOT that large.

I prefer inside the back. I am going to build a inside tire carrier for my 35. on the read bumper they drag on the rocks (no good IMO, could care less about visibility) On the roof its a lot of weight to add to the place you least want it, and its hard to get to. last thing I want to do is climb on to the roof while on a jack or flat lol

pretty simple really

Advanced Cherokee Tech - "All advanced Tech questions. If it modifies your XJ beyond stock parts ask it here. Examples are lifts and SYE's"

mounting the tire on the roof/bumper/custom mount is NOT OEM tech...

OEM Tech - "All OEM related XJ Tech. Examples, no start, general maintenance or anything that's stock."

Because the mods can do things like that!! Gasp! You can choose to report that a thread is in the wrong spot instead of complain about it, too. FYI.

i had a rack with a 32 on it on old jeeps and u can feel the wind resistance and it effects your gas mpg's. right now i have it in the back hatch area laying down flat and have stuff piled on top of it. i want to make a rear tire carrier so itll free up some space. but i dont really like the roof racks anymore because i can fit into my garage without a rack, get more wind resistance and i only used it to hold a tire and bikes and a gas can once. i only see people have tires up there which doesnt make sense to me..meant to carry more then a tire and the average person with an xj and roof rack just has a tire up there

I feel ya on the wind resistance and the mpg's!

Mine has my tire, a shovel, and my jack when i pick it up. Thats about all that rides up there. UNTIL we go camping. The i have more legit space that i need. I have three boys we pack with us. Lotsa stuff to bring.
