Yeah im not sure about the title deal.. Actually, the guy is out of town for work this weekend and thats when I was going to take a look at it. He left it with his grandfather to take the money. So Im not sure how low I'm going to be able to haggle the price with his grandfather haha. And I'm not sure if he re-geared. I asked him if he had lockers and he said he doesn't know much about jeeps and that lifted jeeps are not his "thing" and would rather invest money in his corvette. So I know this guy didn't abuse it, but the previous off roaders might have. They also might have re-geared and added lockers. Hell, maybe even stronger axles.
Surely he told his grandfather his bottom price. So $750 might be a reasonable offer?

The title issue is going to vary state by state. In Massachusetts a car without a title is a lawn ornament. Drive north to New Hampshire and you could register it with a bill of sale and the previous owners registration, no title, no big deal.
This is something you would want to know the ins and outs of in your state before you even think of buying it.

the advice to avoid a lifted jeep was given in reference to what the OP had said..Originally Posted by PDXJ
Things can go wrong with stock Cherokees as well, I never understand the attitude that a lift on a Jeep Guarantees problems. Properly inspecting a potential purchase is the key, if you bought a lifted XJ and ran into problems later you probably should have inspected it better. Do the math if you plan to lift the jeep anyway fixing a few issues will cost much less in time and labor then lifting it later. The key is dont buy a piece of Garbage lifted or not.

no one said anything about not buying a lifted jeep in general.. just not this one.. for this guy..
Don't buy it without a title unless you can get it for less than $500 bucks. There is a bunch of paperwork and you have to get a $100 surety bond plus $60 for a replacement title plus insurance before you can tag it to get plates $20 plus emissions if you have to that's another $25. And gas driving back and forth to the tag and insurance office...This is all before you start putting money into actually fixing things. It also depends on your state. The above is what I had to go through.
Plus his grandfather signing the bill does not mean anything.

Anyone else notice the cherokee forum sticker on it? Anyway, to the OP don't buy it, like everyone else has said it looks beat on and the lack of title is a deal breaker. Don't run out and buy a pos just because it looks cool, be patient and wait for a cleaner Jeep (with a title).

Ask if he'll take an out of state 3rd party cancelled check? after all he's asking a 3rd party to sell something that's not in his name.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that between the 35s and the 6 inch lift, this is a great deal... You're paying $300 for the XJ once you take the rest into account.
Unless it's running funny or rusted out, buy it.
EDIT: Depends on the title laws... Here an '87 is good to go with a bill of sale.
