It's got a manual transmission, and 4.0 I6.
Paint and body is 9/10
Seller said the engine, the tranny, the clutch and other few things have been redone within the last 20,000 miles.
The price is $4000 and its final.
What do you guys think? Too much of a risk or not at all?

200,000 mile on the body also not just engine and trans , 4000 is too much in my opinion , yes its 5 speed and its rear but think about it for 4000 you get super clean one or lifted one !!

prices are dependent on where you live......I have seen some xj's in my area that year that sold for 5 and 6,000.......If it run's strong and shifts well.....and he can provide all the repair receipts...may very well be worth it..
you got any pictures?

I live in SoCal and that's where the Cherokee is too. I will try to find the ad on craiglist for you guys. Is $4000 too much in the SoCal area? I have been looking around and they are either too beat up or don't have the 4.0 and manual combination.

Sorry guys, no pics. I think the post was taken down.
Also she is the first owner and really seems like she took care of it. Minor scrapes on the body from what I could see.
She has receipts for all the stuff that was done to it.
I been looking around and I really can't find anything at this price that's well taken care of.

I live in San Diego. That price is slightly higher, but still close to the normal asking price for around here. If all that work was done to it already, it might be worth considering. I bought my 96 for $2500 and people here thought I was nuts. It had a new lift, new tires, new cat. We live in SoCal and we pay for it.

I've already tried everything. I brought her down from $5000 to $4000 and that's as low as she will go. I walked away and everything amd she didn't bite. So that's my worry. I know the vehicle looks and feels very clean and well taken care of but its still a 98 and its still got 212,000 miles. But its a rare jeep also. Man this is hard!!

212k is fine for these engines as long as they've been taken cared of. In SoCal, it's next to impossible to find manual transmission Jeeps. I've actually never seen one, to be honest. What you should really be looking at is if 98 is an acceptable model year for you. I think it's still okay, as 2000+ had the bad heads. You'll have to check the high pinion vs. low pinion for 98's. If all is well, then I guess you have a decision to make. Good luck!

if you want a manual then get it. sometimes you have to pay a little bit more if your gonna be picky. as far as a 98 goes i have one and there are zero complaints.

I would say NO... If you want a manual tranny get one on ebay for 2000 less than what she wants, and take a road trip. I paid 2100 for mine 97' with 168,000 new 30" tires 3" lift, new brakes and rotors all the way around. aftermarket lights.

I guess I come from a different perspective. Around here, I've seen 2001's in great condition go for up to $8,000. YMMV
