Price sounds high for my area anyways, but that looks like just surface rust. The manifold will be a pain. Check the rockers for any rust bubbles if you are considering buying it.

Trust me, my insurance had to go to Arkansas and Colorado when figuring the price for my XJ. All the ones on autotrader and cars.com are crap in the whole state. I am thinking I can get a quote for a new header and have that taken off asking. They are RARE here in Oklahoma and I made a 45 minute trek just to see this one.

if you can get him down all the power to you , that rust is minor . you will look like that after your first offraod season and some lengthy periods between your next offroad expierience . i got a 98 sport xj , for 3200 with 2 sets of tires , one was 31x10.5x15 . and a 3 inch rc lift , i had no need for the lift , cause mines bigger , but the body and tires and engine etc were pretty good with about as much rust as your , and thats up north 8 hours or so past canadian border .

I would say more in the 2000-2600. I paid 2100 for mine with 161000 miles, 3" lift new tires 29" no radio new breaks. but no exhaust. it was also a southern vehicle so little rust.

Seems a tad high on price with 197k on the ticker. Check the floor boards and underside for bad rust spots, but if you can get it down on price it looks fairly solid.

Heck, I paid $15,450 for my 1999. But then again it had only 8 miles on the odo. when we bought it in 99. But compared to mine. That's a nice rust free rig. And yep I had to change my manifold over to a header too. A banks from Quadratec is about 450 with shipping (free if you mention CF) so with that off should be well south of $3000 retail.

I just bought my 99 Classic with 128K on the clock. It already had a 5" lift on 32" BFG Allterains. And some other goodies and I only paid $3,300 so the asking price seems really high for the one your looking at with close to 200K miles. Id say offer him more in the $2,000 range or keep looking.

Too high for almost 200k miles, and don't factor in the cost of a CD player when shopping for a rig. Stereo equipment will not up the resale by more than a hundred bucks in most cases. Never let the stereo be the selling point of a vehicle.
