Red face Shifting problems with 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo

I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo - Automatic Transmission - 4.0 engine. Anyways so I am leaving work the other day and I start my jeep - back out just fine - put it into drive and it revs real high but won't shift into the next gear. My husband says that if I take it up to 4000 to 4500 it will shift. We checked all the fluids and the filters and they are all good. I took it over to a car place to see if there were any codes - there aren't - what could it be? Someone that I work with told me to check vacuum lines and the TCM or PCM. Not sure what to do - I don't want to buy a new transmission. PLEASE HELP!

,

most likely your transmission band is worn. You may have an external adjuster that will get you by.

Or a bad seal on the servo.
Try the external band adjustment first. You need to get the adjustment procedure for that transmission. I think it's 72inch lbs then back it off 3 turns for a 42re. But I would double check.
