Want to replace my leather seats with cloth. My dog won't ride on the back seat because he slips off... And my drivers seat is torn badly.
Here's the trick... I want to keep my power seats. Can I go to the jy and grab seats, then change the bases over?
Also what year seats are a direct fit (especially the rear)? I have an '88 4 door.

I think you'll have to stick with the 87-88 model years in order to get the right style seat, if that matters. But 87 to I think 94 will be a bolt in swap for the fronts. The rears are the same as far as how they mount 87-2001.

I'm more concerned with fit than style. I think my seats are already from a newer rig anyway. I just don't want leather.... Actually I could care less if they were power also. Thank you.

Why not make some seat covers for them? Its really not as hard as you would think! And if your not the sewing kind, at almost any fabric store or walmart there is something called mend a hem tape. No sew stiching tape! A few yards of material of your liking. Pull your seats out and fit your fabric to fit, I would suggest Velcro to attach it so it can be removed for cleaning. I did my YJ seats front and back I was pretty shocked how easy it was. Maybey for giggles Ill do my JGC and do pics and step by step for us leather seat people, because it really is easy.

I was going to do that.... So as a tester I wrapped a blanket tightly aroun the back seat.... My dog chewed the crap out of it... Lol

Well...... No that wont work... she might really have a hissy sitting back there lol! JK!!!! Seriously tho, the pooch may have shredded it up due to the fact it may have had a piece for him to grap on to, my boxer would do this to any dang thing that moves!

Went right thru the middle. It was pretty tight.
I think it was because he could feel it slide a little bit... He's a spoiled brat.

no they're not.

i put the leather from my 89 into my 90.
front driver and passenger seats bolted right in, but the rear mounts different.
my leather 89 had a pin on the drivers side mount and a bolt on the passenger side (rear, back) and the 90 had bolts both sides.

i cut and popped out the pin, but had to ream the hole bigger for the bolt to fit. but then the mounting tabs are closer together on the leather, so i had to bend them a bit. they don't quite sit right, but i got it to work, non the less.

so the 88, i'm assuming it's a limited, with the leather. anyhow, i'm not sure if the drivers side backrest part of the rear seat where the pin goes is threaded for the cloth style seat or not.

the bottom fit no problem.

if you really want the cloth, it can be done with a little bit of work.

if the mount on the body isn't threaded, you could always just weld a pin on the seat tab to slide in the mounting hole in the body. the other side should just bolt in.

it's not a lot of work, really.

I pulled the driver, passenger, & rear bench seats out of a older like 88-89 limited because the leather was in mint shape from the JY and stuck them in my 99. All I had to do was swap over the front seat brackets between the two, because the newer cherokees the seat belt latch is on the seat bracket and the older cherokees the seat belt latch is bolted to the floor. That's all I had to do. Other then swapping front brackets it was a direct bolt in. Rear went in with no problem.

The covers were designed to be removed easily for washing. They're machine washable, in fact (well, the cloth ones, anyhow.)

I'd imagine that even though the leather isn't machine washable, it's probably still fastened down the same way.

You shouldn't have to replace the entire seat just to put new covers on.
