Rustys steering sucks period.

But I still recommend everything else rustys over zone, rc, or other low end brands.

I live right next to one of their largest dealers, I've met and spoke with rusty himself in person, and really support everything they do (with the exception of steering)

Are their long arms any good?

I wouldn't trust them is they can't get anything that threads together right why trust control arms that use joints that thread in.

Yes I've had rustys parts on 2 different rigs and the parts have failed If I was ever to run anything rustys makes it would be a skid that's about it.

If your stock and want some beefy steering its al alright option, but I'm sitting on 33x12.5 and the rod bends when trying to turn on flat ground. I plan on rusty's OTK kit or JCR's kit.

Well damn. I dont really need to run a 1 ton setup tho just something a little better than stock since I dont wheel too often. I wrecked and broke an lca bracket off the axle so i planned on getting their hd lca brackets also. Any ideas on the best brand to run? I was just gonna get a new drag link and tierod and ends for now unless I find out my trackbar is bent like I think it might be :/

I'm running an Iron Rock Offroad tie rod....super beefy. Picked that over a ZJ as I didn't like how the TRE was integrated into the ZJ one...plus the ZJ one is pre-bent from factory. While others have run it without issue, it was a weak point IMO...

Really good price on it too..

Xj88 05-05-2013 05:40 PM

The iron rock tb uses stock tie rod ends...thats the weak point...the zj Tres are bigger but use the same taper

cmack 05-05-2013 05:43 PM

True, but if I snap a TRE on the trail, it's an easy fix to swap one out..where as the ZJ you're SOL

Again, this was my logic and opinion as to why I decided to run the iron rock

yea just 3 inch lift and 31's and i dont do any rough wheeling, just dirt and mud and ocasional big puddles. i already have the rustys adj. track bar. i just wanted another bar where i can just change the tierod ends and not the whole friggen bar again,if they go bad again. so i picked rustys matched pair.

Rustys + steering = bad things. I've had their tierod fail after a few months the threaded inserts wallowed out and the tre's would slip in and out. They wouldn't not warranty the part cause it was not bent I replaced the steering with a kit from teraflex on my Tj.

Well damn, that sucks man. Glad you didnt get hurt. Looks like im going to have to swap mine out sooner than later. Previous owner "said" he installed it right before I got it from him.

Scotty16 05-07-2013 03:54 PM

I must have gotten the good batches outta rustys. :dunno:....though I never tried the steering from them, stayed stock with my lift, then I upgraded to Rugged Ridge 1 ton tie rod and drag link. I plan on doing that 1 ton upgrade on my next xj :icon_cheesygrin:

redmuck 05-11-2013 05:29 PM

yea what about the rugged ridge setup? i read its a little bigger then rustys. priced from $267 to $350 or so. advanced has it for 350 or so then 15 percent off.

redmuck 05-18-2013 09:33 PM

i just looked at rugged ridges conversion and it looks like it needs one special tierod end. not sure if autopart store has them in stock.
