Looking at a Cherokee...my first XJ for that matter and there's a bit of rust. Location is under the front passenger door. I'm hoping it's not something bigger internally anywhere. Any opinions?
Check the rockers and floor pans. If the floor pans are rusted through, the jeep is pretty much worthless from a buyers standpoint.

Why, when a new entire floor pan from Chrysler is only $180 bucks for the passenger compartment? Cargo area is only like $145. And thats OEM stamped like they used in the factories.
And that rust looks like its on your door, not rocker. And rust is NEVER good. It ONLY gets worse. Fix it NOW, fix it RIGHT! Only thing to do unless you want to junk it down the road.

yeah...seller says its on lower part of door....so what's the best solution to fix such a thing? what'ss the right way to use this as a haggling tool? haha

If there is rust on the exterior door like that, there, Id be worried about a lot more in other places. That door is (more than likely) getting and holding water in it to be rusting out like that. Look at the front seat bolts and see how rusted they are. If they look bad, the floor is probably going/gone, which would be a HUGE bargaining chip in buying it.....as long as you know its a big job, can cost some money (parts, tools, time) and will be some serious work. However, my '99 has been leaking through the firewall probably since the say she came off the line. Front floors are shot for sure, but Ill be able to do all the work and even on the high end (floor pan, shipping, welding, angle grinder, etc.) you can do it for under $1K. Youll need to look it over WELL, EVERYWHERE, so you dont get the shaft.

If there is rust there you will find it in other places too. I would walk away from that one.

Really....Last I checked, last year they were NS1 Discontinued for the chrysler factory pans. Both front and rear pans. Plus you are gonna need the seat risers rear divider and all the brackets to mount the rear seat....maybe the wheel tubs and a bunch of other fab work. then add up all the cut off wheels and grinding disks.....30 to 50 hours worth of real work time cutting, grinding, and welding.
Like I said......worthless.
