Roof Rack or Rear Tire Carrier
Ok so I'm trying to decide what I want to do. I like my roof rack but it kills my MPG and I also like rear tire carriers. What I'm looking for is some pros and cons of both and which you prefer to run. Thanks guys.
Here you can see my rack
And here is the rear tire carrier I'm looking at.

I have both. Keep the rack and get a tire carrier.I have used the rack a few times to carry buddys flat tires and stuff like that.Keeps you from having to toss stuff inside and takin up room.I keep my spare tie rod zip tied up here too and spare axles sometimes

Thought about that since its a 3 piece rack I can shorten it but if I go this other route I'm going to invest in a smaller trailer that I can put a (roof top like) tent over it for the trails. and he can carry his own damn flat tire. ha ha j/k but seriously.

Lol..right but 2 flats on one rig usually equals stranded and a trip to get another one.My vote is keep it along with a carrier, without the tire up there it cant be causing that much drag can it?

Ditch the rack. Lower your COG and get that rear tire carrier bumper. More stable on the trail, and better MPG. Now that's a win win!
...although I do love the look of a roof rack.

I thought about how much drag a full size spare on the roof causes too. (in my case, a 31") and I thought about something like this fabbed out of sheet metal and removable:
Please excuse the crude MSPaint drawing.
While i kind of like the idea of a tire carrier in back, i get into the back alot, and it might get old after a while. I don't go to the spare that often, and being 6'6" I can just stand on the tire to access it. a design like this may act as a bit of a spoiler and add some downforce when curising the highway too.
just thought i'd throw my idea out there.

Add me to the list of "I want that rack!" I might even be willing to drive out there to get it. (Coming from San Diego.)

Well I'm almost at 90% that i'm going to get rid of the Rack. I've had it for less then six month and brand new bare metal costs 410+shipping plus I added another set of gutter mounts and also the mount for the tire and had light tabs installed by a local shop right before they powder coated it. It is probably one of the strongest ones that I have seen out there so i'm not sure how much i'll be asking for it when I sell it.
