Researching Jeep Cherokee Tow Package
I have been looking at getting a Jeep Cherokee specifically a V6 with the Towing Package.
If I get a 3.2L/Automatic FWD or 4WD Cherokee with 2,000 Maximum GTW and have the dealership install the tow package does that officially give my cherokee a 4,500 lbs Maximum GTW?

No adding a hitch is not a tow package,A tow package will have a trans cooler and a different gear ratio that is better for towing. And remember its a unibody car really so towing that much with it wouldn't be a good idea to me.Keep in mind over 2k in weight towing you need trailer brakes also.

This is for a 13" scamp camper, so around 2500 lbs. We opted in for the electric brakes and they have sent me the preferred brake controller for their camper. I am looking for something small with some tow capacity. I have an outback right now but I would have to nickle and dime every lb on the hitch. If I had a vehicle roughly the size of the OB that had some wiggle room in the GVWR area, I would feel better about towing it.

I use my 2004 WJ Overland Edition as a DD and tow with it as it came with the tow package. Class IV Hitch, D30/D44a with 3.73 gears, 4.7L HO V-8 engine, HD Suspension, Trans & Oil coolers.
I tow a much heaver trailer 18' all steel race car/XJ hauler. Does an excellent job of towing and much more heavy duty than the newer ones.

Like i said adding a hitch don't count as a towing package. And if the d.o.t. pulls you over they open your driver door and look up the towing weight on that sticker. If your one pound over that you get a fine and have to drop the trailer and come back with something bigger.

My dad got the new Cherokee with the V6 over the summer. He had the dealership install a "tow package". I'm not sure what that included exactly but I do know that they put a different bumper on the back. Anyway, he doesn't really do any heavy towing, just a vintage travel trailer which is ~2000 lbs. He loves it and is happy. Hopefully this helps.
