Coming from a guy who does not even understand how an open differential works, we will take this very lightly.
My advice comes from having a daily driver that gets wheeled all the time pretty hard. The man asked for our opinions.
He does not drive the jeep much at all, he doesn't wheel much at all. And when he does its easy wheeling.
Next you will be telling the man to 4 link with long arms!
That is what you get with internet wheelers like yourself.
If he ends up getting gears fine. But for a light duty wheeler that is not driven much at all. My suggestion is to spend his money on other things.

Not true. Its people who can not handle others opinions. So they have to spew out insults and name calling. Because they get to be tough guys on the internet.

the scale must vary from person to person huh
remember the time you said "lockers aren't necessary" but then you got a locker and then decided "well lockers are pretty sweet actually." in fact you liked it so much that you got another one for the rear. actually you welded it. you daily drive a welded rear but god forbid gears go into it.
not everybody likes to build their jeep with $20 and a welder. and those that do seem to do a much better job than you

Sure I said that you could have a ball wheeling without lockers. And that your rig could be fairly capable. Sorry you don't agree with that.
And I decided to step it up a notch and go fully locked.
So glad something so simple to understand can be made into a huge issue.
"Do a much better job". What in the world are you getting at? How would you know anyways?
Let's at least try and keep it on the level guys.
If you want to flame me flame me for calling lowrange2 an "internet wheeler". It wasn't an insult, but I it that was funny. 8)

I'm about to put on 33s. If I had the money I would do gears right away, but I don't. If the new tires make it slower than my 4 banger TJ on 31s I will put it at the top of my list.
Its on my list. But for me armor is more important. Not having g the gears doesn't really hurt me at the moment.
