the RED xj club
Hello Everyone, awesome looking xjs. I'm new to the whole jeep thing, I recently got a 99 red xj 5spd with 175,000 miles clean title. It has about a 3" inch lift I believe. Old Man Emu. With newer wrangler gun metal rims and not sure about the tire size will have to check it out. My guy I got it from it was his project jeep. It's my first time owning a lifted vehicle and by looking at some research, there are many people switching out axles, tie rods, etc on them. My question is, where do I start, how do I know what's the best things to do for my jeep because so far I love it and want to keep building it. Thank you!!

If you're only using it on road or minor offroading you should be fine with stock steering and axles unless you go up to a bigger tire size. Even then some people run stock stuff, especially if you have the chrysler 8.25 you should be set for up to 35"s with stock axles and light offroading. If you want to get a little power and mpg improvements with over sized tires might look into swapping in 3.55 gear ratio axles from an automatic transmission Jeep to upgrade from your 3.07 gears, unless of course it's already been regeared. Anyway welcome to the forum and have fun learning about your Jeep!
I recently learned I have a Dana 30 front and Dana 35 rear, my wheels are 33". I feel like the jeep doesn't have the power that it should have, like you were saying, do I need to re-gear to 3.55 for better performance? On both axles? It's my daily driver.
Really 4.10s would be ideal but since regearing is expensive and you might want to upgrade to a chrysler 8.25 29 spline, you could get a chrysler 8.25 and hp 30 with 3.55 gears for pretty cheap or get lucky and find a set with 4.10s or pay extra to get new gears

Thanks. It's a hit or miss for people. Sometimes I get compliments, other times it's the "I would've gone black" or "Why didn't you bedline it". It should look great on yours

Latest photo, painted front grille black, looking to buy a new front bumper soon, btw. How rare are 5spd jeeps for a 99 four door? I don't see much around.
