Recommend a good, cheap, lightweight aluminum wheels
Looking for a different set of wheels. I just got a set of 15x8 Soft 8s and they are outrageously heavy! Just way too heavy for daily driving. they are pretty much twice the wight of stock wheels. I can tell that gas mileage went down and the truck works harder to get up to speed.
So i am looking for a different set of wheels and i am not going to get steel wheels anymore. Looking to get a set of aluminum wheel that are 15x8 with a 4 or 4.5 back spacing. Price wise, not looking to spend more than $400. The truck is pretty not used for off roading i wish i offroaded it more but there is no where to go in the middle of Twin Cities :-( Anyone had good luck with 4x4groupbuy.com? |
cheapest you can get alum wheels is about $100 a pop. I really couldn't see how you had a change in mileage because of a little more weight in wheels.

I just bought some stock jeep alloy's from it seems a 94' and they're doing just fine. It all depends on preference.

Unsprung weight makes a big difference. On lighter cars its huge. Like with my Miata, stock wheels are about 9 pounds, ones I have on there right now are 20 pounds. I really felt the difference in acceleration and braking.

Did you have steelies on to begin with?
I only ask because I have 15x8, black D's, and if I remember correctly, they are not much heavier than a stock steelie. Where you at in the TC, I live in St. Paul:) |

Ya, on a miata. With what a 4 banger in it? I'm guessing the OP has a 4.0, which has quite a bit more power than a miata.
The best inexpensive aluminum wheel I've had were Ultra wheels. They were pressure cast and good for 3200 lbs in a 17x9 inch 8 lug wheel. |

The Cherokee also weighs more than a Miata, and the I6, 4.0 engine isn't a HP or torque monster.

I'm not trying to tell you anything. You made a statement about the difference between the 4 cylinder Miata and the Jeep I6 4.0 engine. I stated that the Cherokees weight was more and that the Jeep 4.0 liter engine isn't a horsepower or torque monster. I have no idea what the mpg difference would be between a heavy steel wheel and an aluminum wheel would be, nor do I care.

Like I said, I don't care about the mileage difference between steel and aluminum. The OP asked for cheap aluminum rims.
You stated that the Miata had a 4 banger engine, I just stated that it weighed less and the Jeep I6 4.0 engine wasn't a horsepower nor a torque monster. I bought my Jeeps for wheeling. I do not care what kind of mileage I get within reason as long as they work off road, I use aluminum rims because they hold a bead better on an aired down tire than a steel rim. |
My Miata actually has more hp and probably torque than a 4.0l Cherokee. Last time I dynoed it I put down 200hp and 197 torque. Its got a little snail. And I still can tell he different between 9lbs wheels and 20lbs wheels.
