Rear shock different lengths ??

I always had shock boots on my truck so I never noticed this before , but I went to put upper bar pin eliminators on my rear shocks and I took the boots off and when I bolted everything back up I noticed the passenger rear shock has like an inch less shaft showing then the diver side , this is real odd to me , the shocks are the same length and I measured my actual Frame rail both sides to the axel and they measure identical , I can't figure out why the shocks are sitting different , nothing looks bent or tweaked , had anyone ever noticed this or had this issue ?

one mount on the front of the axle and one mount on the back of the axle.

And it changes it that much ? So it's like this on every Cherokee ?

It would be more with shackles since it rolls the diff.

What do you mean ?

You are pivoting the diff on the front spring bolts.

What's that gotta do with shock length ? I'm confused about that

Did you measure from the frame rail to each of the shock mounts on the axle? Or just the tube? Because one of the shock mounts is on the front side of the axle and the other is on the rear side, I'm pretty sure the pinion angle will affect the shock lengths. If you rotate the axle, one shock will extend, while the other compresses.

The back drops further than the front.

DEVILSTOY 01-25-2012 02:25 PM

Ahh ok that all makes sense

Well the passenger side mounts to the front and that's the shorter one , the pinion angle deff makes sense
