I have had my Cherokee for 7 years and 160,000 miles later.

I just put on brand new stock rear leaf springs….standard…no extra lift equipment. Kinda high in the rear which is great to give support for small trailer and boat. Cool! None the less, the front is inch lower now. Is it the older coil springs that lost there original spring (like the spent rears)?
Thinking thats next for me. Suggestions?

Second thing today…

I have JUST now noticed that the right front wheel/tire is further out then the left. It that stock normal due to the transfer 4 wheel drive factory set-up?

The front springs they are probably sagging. Get new ones or upgrade to lift springs, or get small spacers that go on top of the springs to get you back to level.

As far as the front track: it should be the same on both sides. If it is off you should check your track bar upper and lower mounting. It is possible that the ball mount on the frame side is shot and is moving around wile you drive, or the bottom mount could have elongated the hole. There is also the possability that the bracket on the frame is loose. I would make sure that everything is tight under there before driving it again. You don't want the track bar falling off wile you are moving.

 

Does it have an adjustable track bar on it at all? I see you said no lift but it might have and adjustable track bar. If so then you can set your thrust angle, which is the alignment of the front and rear axles with it. When is the last time it has had an alignment?

As far as wheels...I did just have the springs replaced which I would think would make other things wacky based on them banging things around to do the job (local station). I will check into the adjustment value and have it looked at by other. It does answer the wandering fact that maybe it was always been like that but thats nuts and bolt now that think about it…lol Thank you. JeepCherokeeHO!

ps. I got new tires on new wheels which included alignments….and I went back to get my free alignment again within the 30 day warranty.

 

wait to buy anything for the rear. drive it for a month before you make any calls on how high or low it sits in the back, those new leaf springs will settle, quite a bit. also, if you put 160,000 problem free miles on that thing and haven't done anything to the front end I'd leave it alone. of course this is assuming proper tire wear and no worn out/broken parts.

Still can not figure out how right wheel is sitting out just enough to make me wonder. Its all tight and drives great, straight and quiet.

I've dealt with a few vehicles having solid front axles. I don't ever recall any of them being perfectly centered under the vehicle. I am guessing it's bc without a watts link setup a solid front axle will move side to side as it raises and lowers.

coil springs generally don't sag, it's only because your leafs are new. give them time to settle down to ride height.

another thing that can have the rear ride high is if the u bolts were tightened with the axle hanging. it needs to have the weight of the jeep on the springs when all the bolts get tightened.

as for track, well that's the track bar that keeps the axle centered. so look there including both ends.
