Default "R&D" thread. input please

I finally got a shop that I can start building parts in and one of the items high up on my list is winch bumpers and stubby bumpers. I have seen a few people complain about having to remove their steering box to install/remove traditional bumpers, so what I am wondering/considering is this:

If I were to simply make the holes in the plates where the steering box bolts go oversized so that the bolts come through it, but also added brackets that bolt through the bottom of the "rails" (thinking tie into swaybar mounts and include nut strips to allow for drilling 2-4 extra holes per side)

Any and all thoughts would be appreciated

Why do the extra work? It's not that difficult in all reality and I would highly recommend to ANYONE that they go ahead and replace the crappy aluminum spacer with a steel one that has a backing plate to act as additional reinforcement. Better to do it all at once and have less work in the end.

I agree. It's not that hard to do.

well the nut strip and swaybar bolts will be incorporated either way. There may also end up being a steering box brace incorporated into it as well
