Default Question Regarding 82 Cherokee

Gday guys I live in OZ and own an OZ assembled 1982 Cherokee SJ, mine is a 258 with a 4 Spd box I thought it was a 5 sp as my first 82 was a 258 with a T-5, now what kind of gearbox is the four speed in these? are they better then the T-5, my first T-5 only did 200,000KM and she kicked the can, first to third were noisy as, synchros were shagged, the gearbox man opened it up over a bin, I read years ago that it was best to lose the 5sp and go back to a 4sp , I need my Cherokee to tow our horse float I know they have the ***** far as engine is concerned but hoping the 4 sp is up to the challenge, what say you gents?

If it's the same 4 speed that they used to use in the Gladiator, then it's extremely heavy duty and strong.

Sometimes I look back on my life and wonder why I didn't get a new Gladiator 41 years ago, instead of going down the Chevy path. My mom looked at one about 1970 and it was a brute (Buick engine, IIRC).
