Hey, for you guys who have painted your jeep, i would like to know some good tips on the prep work, what sandpaper should i go through on the scale? Like starting point and ending? Start at like 300? for the old paint and work my up to a larger grit (500) and keep advancing or what do you guys suggest? Let me know dont be shy to post!

Well, I guess I'll go first. I'm in the process of repainting my hood. First, I filled in all the deep scratches, gouges, and bare spots. Then after all that dried up, I used 200 grit wet/dry sand paper. It smoothed out all the touch up and evened out the touch up in relation to the surface of the hood. Sanded in circular motions, making sure to keep the paper wet all times. I sanded right down to bare paint, removing the clear coat entirely. Next for me, I'll be painting it a flat black to keep the glare down. Since I'm doing the hood, and it gets toasty on it, I'll be using a high heat Rustoleum paint. Wet sand in between coats and if you're going for a glossy look don't forget to put a clear coat over top of the paint. Make sure you clean up before each coat so the paint and clear coats adhere properly.
Hope this helps some. It works for me.
