possible jeep owner mpg ?s
Looking at a 2000 lifted XJ with 33s and 410 gears. Upgraded injectors etc. What kind of mileage would you guess it would or should get. It is built right. I drive 28 miles one way for work M-F. So I'm slightly curious. I get around 16 or 17 now with my daily and looking to bump up the cool factor and get into another xj. Just never had one that was tricked out

I'm on 35's with 4.56. Depends on the terrain. On flat, at highway speed, I'm between 13-15 mpg. On hilly terrain, it's closer to 10mpg. Of course this is a crawler that I drive to the trail, lots of armor, full size spare on the rear bumper, etc.

Pretty common issue? I really like this jeep
QUOTE=93XJeeper;3179989]not sure about the mpg but just so you know, the 2000-2001 model year XJ had the bad casting 0331 head. It's known for cracking.
Doesn't seem like it would be awful
ank/week, no big deal.
A little FYI, it's a 15 year old vehicle, you can probably lower the red flag now.
Really Better mpg then I figured. At 1.99 or so here and 60 miles a day that isn't really to much more than I'd spend driving my boring s10 blazer...the jeep I'm looking at is 6.5 lift 410 gears bigger injectors. Better flowing water pump bigger radiator. Custom cold air intake 62mm Oversized Throttle Body

My 99 4.0, 784 injectors, 64 mm TB, with 4 1/2" of lift lots of extra weight winch/bumper, rear tire carrier bumper, armor, sliders, roof rack 33x12:50x15's with 4.56 gears 15-17 mpg avg.
Only thing that affects the mileage on the one your looking at is the 4.10 gear and 33" tires, 4.10 for 31's best mileage. A quality tune up with attention to detail will help about anything to do better.

Yeah I can see it suckling more fuel with the 410s and 33s. I think I won't buy it then. He is asking premium price as its very nice but I don't want to have to go changing crap to get better mileage so it's affordable to drive.

People who don't have an '00-'01 are always yelling about the head issue. Sure it can happen, but for the amount of money most of us are already putting into these things, it's a small price. I have more $ tied up in tires alone, than a new head, even for the cost of having a shop do it.
