i have looked everwhere on here and cant find a thread or write up on how to change pinioon bearings in the rear of my 01 xj d35....someone please help need it back drivin for work.btw only have regular garage tools no pullers.thanks in advance
You will need a puller or a press, you will need an indicating torque wrench (beam-type, dial-type, or electronic,) you will need a large torque wrench (for setting pinion nut torque,) and you will need someone who has done this job before, if you have not.
If you lack any of those, you're honestly better off taking your rig to an axle shop - they can get you sorted in short order. If you do a pinion bearing wrong, it will last about a week (best-case scenario. Worst-case is you have to overhaul the axle again - the entire centre section. I've seen misinstalled pinion bearings grenade, and the rollers get wedged in the gears and kill them off in a hurry...)
