What we've got going for us is the fact that these SUVs have aged, sure. But theyve grown into beloved enthusiast rides with a die-hard fan base... without crossing that fine line of becoming collectible.

This keeps buying one reasonably affordable, keeps the aftermarket support healthy and affordable, and it keeps the shelves stocked at your local parts store.

It never fails to amaze me how frikin many XJs i see on the road every day. From beefed up rigs, to plain stockers doing their duty, hauling somebody to work.

I dont see this changing much in the near future.

Right. Around here (like most places) XJ drivers typically wave to each other. About 1/2 of the XJs I wave at don't wave back because it is just their everyday car (they aren't jeepers, they just happen to still have their XJ on the road after 20+ years).

When I visited Colorado Springs, I counted 5 XJs at one major intersection waiting for the light to change. In those dry climates they are still on the roads in large numbers. I call that place the epicenter of XJ love.

Up here in the rust/salt belt...XJs are a little more unique and special. The ones for sale are getting worse and worse. The good ones are coming more now from folks that specialize in going down south to pick them up and bring them up here for resale (how I got mine).

that place is the jeep epicenter, period. so many jk, jku, tj, jl, yj, xj...all of them - everywhere. i see a lot of xjs around here. truth be told prob 75% of them are piloted by high school girls.

i found this on my window after picking up chinese food awhile back.

I picked up an 04 Ford Sport Trac to replace my XJ. I still drive the XJ, and will until it dies, but the truck will take it's place some day.

I drove a base Ford Escape, and it was a gutless wimp.
Had to floor the pedal to get ANY sort of passing ability.
Total junk.

Depends on what you want to do but I love 4runners. You can do a lot with them, they’ll log a ton of miles and you can get one newer than an XJ without totally breaking the bank.

If I ever get the chance on a good deal for a WRX I would jump on it. I’ve ways wanted one just couldn’t justify the price tag most of them have.

my wife drives a 2013 with the 2.0 ecoboost. definitely NOT a gutless wimp for it's designed place in the food chain. Actually pretty quick.

I'd definitely get the turbo 2.0 a couple years older before getting a base a little newer.

My XJ is still in the works. Building it more to Very Capable DD. Don't look for it to die anytime soon. But my other half is wanting her own Jeep. She likes the Wrangler and two door rigs. That will be my next. Or maybe an older pickup or VW beetle ???

I will ride a bicycle before ever owning one of these EcoJuice engines.
Total garbage.
168 HP to power 3700 lbs ?
What an embarrassment.
My bicycle is actually faster.
