It makes the door harder to close since it's in the way. Will it "mishape" my door in any way making it harder than it already is to close? You have to slam it gently now. But will this screw up the "hinges" for lack of better word

Without describing what is interfering with the door I think people will have a hard time offering assistance. Could you post a picture of the problem?

That won't bother your door, used to do the same thing with in car heater cord.

Just keep an eye on the cord, going through the door jamb. It could wear the coating off, causing a short... if it's a snug fit.
