Default OE Roof Rack Crossbars...mpg?

has anyone proved that removing them helps mpg? I have read that some people get alot of mpgs out of removing them, but I just can't see that they screw with economy that much!

I can't imagine that they screw too much with MPGs. The aerodynamics are already so bad I just can't believe it. My four lights didn't really effect it too bad.

It would be an immeasurable amount of increase. The amount of wind drag the stock roof bars add is negligible.

I tried this for 2 months. It only improved by .5-1 mpg. def not worth not having its utilitity. you could gain that by raising tire presure 1-2lbs.

I doubt it. Because if it were true it is actually a decent increase.

I think only big aftermarket ones would. Im running a Confer rack with 4 Hellas and a spare up top an that would help to take off. But not the thin stick bars

I've been doing a lot of distance driving this summer over the same terrain. I picked up about 1/2 mpg removing the crossbars. I have a better quick n easy rain gutter crossbar set I picked up off of craigslist for my occasional load. I did save the original ones in case I want to build a budget Harbor Freight roof rack, but I can't imagine leaving them up there for a commuter anymore.

there are way to many factors to consider for me to believe removing these will truly give a measurable increase in fuel milage.

They stick up and catch the air at 60-70 mph. You don't get something for nothing. How many of the new jeeps or any cars have crossbars? Or even the added weight of a spare? The auto companies are shooting for cost savings and mpg.

Maybe not measurable for some, but still not magic.
