Would it bad to just unplug the vacuum lines to the front and rear diff to prevent them from locking when you engage 4x4. This way you can putt around with them open and on pavement.

What vacuum line do you have on your rear diff?

I don't understand the question...there are no vacuum lines on the diffs, just vents. Unhooking the vents will make no positive changes. You may have a vacuum on the front axle if it is a vacuum disconnect. If you disconnect it, the front end will not engage at all. There will be no difference whatsoever between 2 hi and 4 hi as far as power to the ground goes. It is not possible to change the NP231 to a full time case without changing out alot of internals. And that would be pointless.

Why do I feel like this is a joke?

Then is just the np242 vacuum based for part-time?
I feel like its vacuum based or something that needs the hose.
I was putting around my yard testing 4x4 modes and the rear was not locking. Only 1 tire was spinning. I saw a hose that was disconnected, plugged it back into the axle, and both rear tires were spinning.

Do you have a rear locker? if you don't then only 1 tire spinning is normal without a locker in your differential the power only goes to 1 wheel
