Just grand Cherokee would have a V6 as far as I know .... The xj's were 4 bangers , Europe had some diesels and 80% are 4.0L

I know they had v6s I have one my self. They aren't to bad actually. Just don't make a lot of power

I know GM, and the 2.8 was a GREAT engine, especially in a 1987 Z24. But lugging a Lumina around was even a bit much for it, let alone a stock XJ...add bumpers tires etc and it was just never made to move all that mass. good engine but a poor choice for the XJ.
