Bought my jeep cherokee new in 1998..
sport model 4.0 litre standard shift.
kept it basically stock cept for k&n filter...
been pretty much trouble free xcept for basic maintenence..
I did replace basically everything in the AC system but she runs great.
Got 215,000 miles so far.
I was reffered to this site because I have a little problem...
we got a little snow storm the other day and I was acting the fool ...
and wound up out of control 360... smack into a concrete curb..
bending the heck out of the right rear rim.... and also the axle.
I went to the boneyard and bought a brand new full size rim and tire for $60.00
now I need to replace the right side axle, as it has a slight tweak to it. (the axle tube is fine, it's just the end of the axle/round plate that holds the lug nuts)
anyway, I know the drill, I'm using the search button right now looking for knowledge as to whats involved swapping an axle and where the best place to get one.
cool site.

If the axle housing isn't damaged, swapping out the axle shaft on the one side itself is even easier.

cool.
yeah, I'm gonna yank the axle shaft out and bring it to the local junkyard to have them pull me a replacement. I'm not sure what #spline it is .. and it's gotta come out anyway...
unfortunatly, none of the junkyards are pick and pull anymore... (liability)
you just tell them what you want and they go get it...
back in the day, I used to love going to junkyards... we used to call it "prospecting"
