I recently purchased my first jeep! A 1990 bone stock XJ in perfect condition. but my problem is, I would like to lift it and do all kinds of work on it but its too clean! what are some mods i can do to make it a nice weekend rig, while still being my daily driver and as close as possible to stock.
please bare with me, im new to CF!

Well if you are just looking for a semi-stock look, I'd say 3.5" lift on 31s. You won't need to trim or do anything funky, and it'll look stock until you park next to a truly stock Cherokee. That will also have the added benefit of replacing a lot of the worn suspension components, which are probably original to the Jeep and quite worn.

Put a locker in the rear and it'll be really pretty capable. 3.5" of lift with 31s and a locker will get you just about anywhere. You may also have to put 4.10 gears in to get the power back, but it shouldn't be bad.

Then it's just what you want to do. You can do pretty much anything to a Cherokee. New bumpers, different lights, a roof rack, pretty much whatever you can think of doing.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I thought the stock dana 35 couldn't handle anything bigger than 30in tires. Also, what is the largest tire size you can put on an XJ without a lift, along with that question what is a recommended tire/rim combo for stock XJ's and with a 3.5in lift

Ah, you have a Dana 35 under it? Hm, well, some people around here are running 33s on them, I think 31s are doable.

Without a lift, not sure. Maybe 30s, but you'll probably have to trim the inner fender a bit to keep them from rubbing.

I love the stock look! They really did a great job designing the Cherokee, not only the body but the Inline 6 Engine kicks ***!
