Default My Jeep met a tree today.

I decided to go off roading on some real trails a couple towns over. I made the mistake of going alone and not putting my rear view mirror back on. I had a great time, my stock jeep cleared the trails I went on which surprised me. I went to turn around, and backed into a tree heading out. I wrecked the hatch back and bumper. Sometime this week I want to try and find one to replace it. Now the jeep is off the road.

Today before hitting the tree.

After

I drove it home, and it started to rain heavily, which is just my luck. I

Yikes. You may have
more damage than just the bumper and liftgate. The rear x member and floor look pushed in also Mave have to do some pullng to get it to all fit right. That sucks for you.sorry to see that happen, Clean xj tho

I was obviously going to fast(15 or 20 mph maybe)I looked in the mirrors, didn't even think to turn around and look, and now I am regretting not doing so. Before doing this, the clean was clean, body and frame, it was a clean slate to do a rebuild on.

It's suppose to rain all this week, I want to attempt to get the hatch back and bumper off to see what I messed up inside. I'm glad I have no mechanical talent too.

Damn dude, but live and learn I guess. There seem to be allot of xj owners in CT though so maybe it wont be too hard to find a replacement and someone to help.

Good Luck!

Wow. Didn't bother to put your rear view on OR even look out the back!? I gotta say that's karma giving you a little heads-up - just be glad you weren't in a parking lot where things you back into at 20 mph have lawyers and medical bills.

It was a mistake dude and now ya know lol. Fixable stuff and youll learn while doing so and have fun learning to Work on it.First time I had my XJ I took it to the mtns and the alternator blew out on me, I used flashlights to neutral down as far as I could and waited for morning to find a house a few miles away. I lived and learned, no more jeepin alone buddy

He doesn't have a hitch, But there is a idea. Is that more of a step than a bumper?

We have one of those harbor freight steps on the back of our truck and it has held up to many hits from forklift trucks. So I would say their strong, probably stronger than a stock xj bumper. We had to replace the rubber step pad and we added some reflective tape. I would say it's a step that is as strong as a bumper.

Yeah it's sold as a hitch mount. There's also chrome ones from fatter tube metal (steel I guess, didn't pay attention) for $75 and up..ebay, amazon, etc.

Tough enough. I saw an abandoned office desk out by some warehouses and blasted it in reverse. totaled the desk and didn't even scratch the step. It says powder coated--made in china so maybe..but for $25 I doubt it...
