X2..mine is doing the same thing (97 4.0, AW4) and I am waiting for one more Mopar sensor to arrive before I change them out. "Them" being crank, throttle,IAC and map. All Mopar parts because I have learned a lesson on AZ, AA and Ebay sensors. They just don't last and create havic and make me drink more...A LOT more!!

I wouldn't count on it throwing a code for the cps, my 98 never did. Check your ohms and voltage at cps connection with a multi meter. The specs are in hayes/chiltons or online.

Checking it with a meter isn't a true test. They may check out fine but, still fail. I have learned that to the hard way.
I bought my crank sensor at moparonlineparts.com and paid $70ish with shipping. Not sure what a dealer would charge but, I have heard upwards of a couple hundred bucks. Yes, definitely go OEM than deal with Advance or the Zone. Trust me..
I checked out my old Ebay crank sensor yesterday and noticed that the insulation on the sensor end were cracked and showing the wires. That sensor was replaced last year.
