Right, but Midas has a corporate headquarters, if only for marketing, so I can find one just about anywhere, complain, and it will all go back to corporate. If I go to local Joe, move, and go to another local Joe, I would be SOL.

Also how much does your Midas charge for changing the fluid in both diffs?

quick question on the diff fluid change...i got a tube of the orange high temp RTV, that ok to use?

also have some bottles of valvoline 80-90, would that work too? also what is the filling proceedure or is there a set amount to put in?

thanks! gonna do this in the next few days, the rear is leaking pretty bad so i know it's gonna be low on fluid

Note sure on the RTV, but you just fill it till it comes out the fill hole, took me three bottles even to get the front and back, i used 80-90 valvoline (it says that in the manual/a couple replie told me that and its is for an open diff, if you have a locker or trailer hitch(from factory) you need an additive which i cant remember the name of right now.

Just use regular gear oil 80/90. It costs me $21 to change both axles.

sorry i dont mean to thread jack.

But i was told that besides using rtv, u need a made gasket as well.
Is that true, cuz i put both on, but when i tighten the bolts the made gasket split into two and popped off, lol so i jus used pure rtv.

Do u need that made gasket?

Just RTV works fine. Both my diff covers are sealed with only RTV and I have not leaked a drop.

RTV seals good, but can be a p.i.a. to remove when changing again.

I used "lubelockers" $30 for 2.
3 quarts of RoyalPurple 75-140 for the rear. $5.00 a quart (yea i got a screamin deal from a clearing out distributor.)
2 quarts of RP 70-90 for the front. $15.00 a quart (had to buy from autozone)

Total was about $75.00.

Dont forget to do the transfer case once in a while too!
Takes about 10 minites and a couple quarts of atf.

I buy the $3 rtv tubes and use a wire brush attached to my drill. Makes taking off the rtv so easy. Lube lockers would be nice but I can't see myself shelling out $30 for a gasket. That's just me though
